About

Once upon a time there was a bored, retired housewife called Sue Harrison (Sue H) who had recently moved to South Molton and was then locked up due to COVID-19 restrictions.

One day she had a light bulb moment and a vision to gather together a group of like-minded people to brighten up South Molton with an aim to win South West in Bloom. Whilst pursuing one of her favourite hobbies, she could busy herself and get to know lots of people.

At the end of January, after speaking to the Town Clerk to seek approval, she then put a query out on FB to see if anyone would be interested in joining her to form a group called South Molton in Bloom.

She was overwhelmed by the interest shown and so on February 11th, SMIB held their first meeting and approved the constitution. As of judging day on 13th July 2021, we will have been set up for 5 months only.

Aims

  • To make South Molton as pretty and colourful as possible in terms of planting but within the financial means of the group
  • To bear in mind the environment: to maximise sustainable planting, plant trees and wildflowers, preserve bees and birds and wildlife wherever possible
  • To work as a diverse community and a happy group towards the same aims within an atmosphere of friendship, care and respect for each other
  • To do this for the wellbeing of all residents and their environment
